Please read the following information to determine the correct course of action in case of an emergency.

Cheek and Lip Irritation
- Usually occurs in the first 3-14 days after the placement of braces, as well as after some progress visits.
- To help relieve irritation, first dry the area and place wax over the bracket, hook or appliance part that is irritating your lip or cheeks. Rinse with warm water each morning and evening.

Loose Teeth
- It is normal for teeth to loosen during treatment since they are moving from one position to another. If it is loose due to a physical condition, you may need to call your general dentist.

Loose or Irritating Wire
- If the archwire is broken or loose, cover it with wax and call the office during normal business hours to schedule an appointment for repair. We will offer you the next available comfort visit.
- If a tie wire that holds a single bracket to the archwire is poking, use the eraser of a pencil or the non-bristle end of a tooth brush to bend it back toward the bracket or tooth.

Loose Bracket
- If the bracket is being used to hook up elastics, discontinue elastic wear and call the office during normal hours for an appointment to reattach the brace.
- If a bracket has come off and is not causing you any discomfort, you can wait until your next regular appointment to have it reattached.
- If the bracket has come off and is causing discomfort, call the office during normal business hours for an appointment to reattach the brace.

Lost Hole/Expander
- Call the office during normal business hours, and we will schedule an appointment to help you locate the appliance hole and complete the turns.

Minor Accident/Trauma to the Mouth/Loose Appliance
- Our office hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Fridays. In case of an emergency after hours, call our office for a listing of emergency numbers.
